George Langbroek osa sca

About the Artist

George is a respected visual artist from Niagara whose career spans nearly three decades. His versatile practice encompasses a wide range of media, including etching, ink, graphite, painting, stainless steel mesh, assemblage, and mixed media.

The Jordan Art Gallery observes that "we encounter a vast amount of fragmentation and brokenness" and about Langbroek's artwork, "The recovery of beauty is of primary concern...using aesthetic and cultural implications that tell our story of suffering and joy, brokenness and wholeness, ugliness and beauty, intertwined in a kind of reconciliation through an aesthetic of beauty."

Over the years, George has garnered numerous accolades, including first-place awards with the Society of Canadian Artists and for a Reformed Worship Magazine cover. His work has also been recognized in Toronto at the John B. Aird Gallery and Tyndale College. He has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Ontario, including The Institute of Christian Studies (Toronto), The NAC (St. Catharines), The Pumphouse (NOTL), and the Flagship Gallery (Hamilton), as well as in juried shows from New York to Holland.

Notable exhibitions include Transforming Culture at the VAM Gallery (Austin, TX) and Bread Upon Water, a North American traveling exhibition by Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA).

George and his wife are settled in St. Catharines, ON. You can often find him there creating in his home studio or managing the store as one of the founding partners at the well-established Jordan Art Gallery (celebrating 20 years).

About the Show
Eden's Echo:
Seeds of Hope

Launch: 7pm Jan 10     Running Jan 10-Apr 30

Third Chair Gallery
89 Scott St., St. Catharines ON Caanada

EDEN'S ECHO: Seeds of Hope is an exploration in printmaking (etching) and mixed media assemblages that invite you on a reflective journey, tracing the story of mankind, from Creation and its fall through the seed of the forbidden fruit, to our redemption through the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ — the ultimate seed of Abraham.

And in the hands of our Master Potter, we become new creatures, even while we are still clay, and in that transformation, seeds of change are planted and producing fruit of the Spirit. Additionally, the exhibit highlights the cyclical beauty of nature and serves as a constant reminder of God's promise of renewal for those who follow Him through all seasons of life.

Let the art guide you through earthy colours, striking contrasts, and varied textures of beauty and pain, while you reflect on the "Ultimate Seed" and this thought of Oswald Chambers: “When you concentrate on the great point of spiritual energy—the cross—keeping in contact with this center where all power lies, its energy will be let loose.”

Throughout, we are reminded of the many references to seed in the Bible and in nature. The seed-themed verses in the descriptions are not necessarily linked to the specific piece but are included for further contemplation. We hope tGeorge's art leads you to a deeper understanding of redemptive beauty through these seeds of hope.
